Rhinoplasty surgery is the operation made to eliminate the congenital or subsequent shape defects due to various reasons (fracture, cartilage tissue damage etc.) and to correct the structural defects creating respiratory problems (bone or cartilage curvatures) in addition to the aesthetic appearance of the nose.
A successful rhinoplasty operation requires the performance of the examinations on the patient and discussions by the surgeon himself/herself to perform the surgery. Rhinoplasty surgeries are performed under general anesthesia in the operating rooms, which have the necessary equipment, prioritizing the comfort of the patient. Although it varies based on the nature, this operation usually lasts 1.5 – 2 hours.
There are Two Basic Goals in Rhinoplasty Surgery
- Improving the quality of life of the individual by providing more comfortable breathing.
- Helping the individual who achieved a more beautiful appearance with rhinoplasty surgery to establish more successful relationships in social life thanks to increased self-confidence.
What are the differences between the techniques used in rhinoplasty surgery in general?
Techniques applied in nasal surgeries:
- Open rhinoplasty surgery technique (Open approach)
- Closed rhinoplasty surgery technique (closed approach)
Open technique: The open operation technique is used in the majority of today’s rhinoplasty operations. The advantage of this method is that it allows all operations to be performed on the nose. In open rhinoplasty method, structural problems in the nasal bone structure (nasal back and root) and middle cartilage tissue are easily removed.
Closed technique is the first technique applied in rhinoplasty operations. It is mainly applied to eliminate of the deformities on the nasal back and nasal tip. The healing process lasts a bit shorter than the open technique.
The technique to be applied is determined by the doctor through evaluating the patient’s complaints and requests.
